Our Story

A man and a young girl are sitting on a dark brown leather couch in a room with wood-paneled walls decorated with framed photographs. They are both wearing matching blue caps and jackets with a logo that reads 'Sunshine'. The girl is smiling, and the man appears to be making a surprised or confused facial expression.

Family-Owned. Built on Hard Work. Trusted Across Northern California for Over 45 Years.

Serving Redding and Northern California since 1978, Sunrise Excavating Paving & Landscape Supplies combines decades of experience, a full fleet of modern equipment, and a family-owned commitment to quality that hasn't changed since day one.

Where It All Started

In 1978, John Williams started Sunrise Excavating and Paving with a backhoe, a dump truck, and a straightforward goal, to be the company people called when they needed excavation and site work done right. No shortcuts, no excuses. Just honest work backed by the right equipment.

One year later he incorporated the company, brought on a small team, and got to work building something. Not just driveways and job sites, a reputation. Project by project, client by client, Sunrise became the name Northern California contractors and homeowners trusted when the job mattered.

Today, Sunrise is a full-service excavating, paving, and landscape supply operation with a team of 25 dedicated employees serving Redding, Red Bluff, Anderson, Cottonwood, Mt. Shasta, Shasta Lake City, Corning, and communities throughout Shasta, Trinity, and Tehama Counties. The equipment is bigger, the capabilities are broader, and the team has grown, but the values John built this company on haven't changed a bit.

Keeping the Family Spirit Alive

John Williams has begun passing the reins to his children, who are driving the company forward and carrying the Sunrise name into its next chapter. This second-generation leadership brings fresh energy, modern techniques, and a deep familiarity with the business that only comes from growing up around it.

Our customers know that nearly five decades of trusted service is now backed by a new generation that's just as committed to doing things the right way. Same values. Same standards. Same promise to show up, do the work, and stand behind it.

What We Do

Sunrise is more than an excavating company. We're a full-service operation built to handle every phase of a project, from the first cut in the ground to the finished surface and everything in between.

Our capabilities include excavation and site preparation, grading and land clearing, underground utility installation, asphalt paving and repairs, landscape material supply and delivery, and specialized houseboat transport. We hold a California Class A General Engineering Contractor license (number 438763) which covers General Engineering, Building Moving, and Demolition, giving us the credentials to take on projects of any size or complexity.

We work with homeowners, private contractors, and public sector clients across Northern California, and we bring the same attention to detail and commitment to quality to every single one.

A large Kenworth truck with a white and gray cab and red accents is working on paving a road. There are construction workers and a small roller compactor behind it, with dirt and gravel on the road surface under clear blue skies.

We'll let our work speak for itself , but we will mention one thing. We're pretty confident we're the only contracting company in Northern California with a self-built 10-acre water ski lake behind our offices. We did that one for fun. It gives you a pretty good idea of what we can do when we put our minds to it.
